Manage 4K Display Scaling: Attention! Reduce screen resolution only after reading the entire article! Enable, change or set in the registry base only at your own risk! Improper settings can cause system error!

Introduction

There are users who continue their activity at home, the one that started in the office, but it happens that the home monitor is 4K resolution, which can be 3840 x 2160 pixels, but in the office it is only in HD, ie max. 1920 x 1080 pixels, so you should look with the magnifying glass on the image or text.

Manage 4K Display Scaling

The solution

  1. The solution would be to reduce the resolution on the 4K monitor. But then why is a 4K resolution monitor needed?
  2. You can reduce the resolution by clicking on the taskbar at the bottom, left of the screen on: Start Menu / Settings / System / Display link.
  3. Or if your 4K monitor or Windows system is so smart and asks every time: "Want to increase the DPI setting?". In this case, just click OK.

Do the following:

If the process is annoying after a while, use the following trick to tell the system what settings should be taken automatically, whether the office was the smaller setting than at home.

  1. - Change the registration database.
  2. - Create a "manifest" file.
  3. - Copy to each folder of programs you want to display in another resolution.

This "manifest" file will be valid for each program, only the name will be different.

I did so

  1. Simultaneously pressed the Windows + R buttons on the keyboard.
  2. I entered the regedit command in the Run window.
  3. In the database I have searched for: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > SideBySide.
  4. In this window, clicked with the right mouse button in an empty space.
  5. I hold my mouse over the New.
  6. In the small window that appeared, clicked with the left mouse button on the DWORD (32-bit) Value.
  7. Created a New Value (#1).
  8. This New Value (#1), renamed into PreferExternalManifest.
  9. Then clicked on it with the right mouse button and chose Modify from the mouse menu.
  10. In the edit window that appeared, I changed the value 0 (zero) to 1 (one), and selected the Decimal radio button.
  11. Finally, clicked on OK button, and closed the registration database.

Let's create a file called manifest

Restarted the computer to validate the data.

Finally

  • I copied the contents of the manifest file from the Microsoft site ...
  • I have copied the contents of the manifest from the Microsoft site

  • Copied it in Notepad. Then saved it as Photoshop.exe.manifest in the Photoshop folder

    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit)

  • Enter it in the notepad

Of course, for other programs give another name. For example:

    1. Open Office: „soffice.exe.manifest”
    2. Notepad++: „notepad++.exe.manifest” etc.

    Error option

    1. Do not use the original program icon from your Desktop, create a new one. For example, in the C: \ Program Files \ Adobe \ Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit) folder, right-click on the Photoshop.exe file, and choose the Send / Desktop (create shortcut) link from the popup menu.
    2. If it does not work, check the registration database if the name, the value, and the decimal mark are correct.
    3. Older Windows operating systems, older versions of programs, may not work with this solution.
    4. Restart the computer.
    5. Enter the name of the pre-named program file correctly. For PhotoshopPro, you do not write Photoshop simply, but also type Pro.
    6. If it sends the error: "The program can not start because missing a file on the computer" reinstall the program.

    END
